Capture the Colour!

Colour makes the world go round!

Capture the Colour is a competition for bloggers to enter photographs in each of the five colour categories, blue, green, yellow, white and red.

I have been nominated by my wife Laura who won The Guardian's Travel photographer of the year competition in 2011. This is her entry for capture the colour: http://withahope.org/2012/07/05/capture-the-colour/

So, here is my entry.

BLUE

Water was always going to dominate choice of shot in this category, but the reason this stood out to me was the same reason it took my breath away when I first saw Peyto Lake in Canada - the glacial lake was a brilliant turquoise framed beautifully by the coniferous forest around the whole lake. On top of that are the rugged Rocky Mountains - one of my favourite shots ever.

GREEN

Iceland is a truly beautiful country with landscapes that would make a million postcards. When I saw this waterfall I couldn't help but think this is what waterfalls looked like in text books or in drawings when I was a child. The greenery framing the waterfall and the blue sky above enhanced the shot.

YELLOW

This is the view from room no.1 at Florence's (Franco's) on the Freetown peninsula - Sierra Leone. I decided to use the window to frame the shot to provide an honest image. The fishermen's boats provide scale for the photograph too.

WHITE

This shot was taken in Split, Croatia as we walked along the promenade on our honeymoon. European cities offer so much culture by way of free entertainment and Split did not disappoint. I think this shot of the men dressed in white captures the energy of their performance.

RED

This shot was taken at River Number Two resort on the Freetown peninsula in Sierra Leone. In a landscape of blue sea, blue sky and white sand, this fishing boat resting in the lagoon offered a contrast. I like the reflection which doubles up the red.
